City’s Mobile Office finishes off a bumper year

01 December 2025

The City’s Corporate Services Directorate is proud to share that from January to November 2025, the Customer Relations Department’s mobile team visited communities 88 times and hosted 10 Basket of Services events. Each visit enabled hundreds of residents to log queries and service requests electronically, while the Basket of Services initiative brought multiple City departments directly into communities to provide on-site assistance.

‘It’s been an exceptionally busy year, and I’m pleased to report that the City’s Customer Relations Department consistently delivered at least four Mobile Office visits every month. These visits reached all four regions of the City and were boosted by our Basket of Services initiative, which brings key departments such as Health, Energy, EPWP and Human Resources directly to residents,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

‘One of the highlights this year was the Subcouncil 13 visit, which services Gugulethu, Philippi, Nyanga and Crossroads residents. It recorded a record 970 residents being assisted in a single day. Mitchells Plain and Athlone also saw strong engagements, each drawing just over 500 residents.’

The 88 Mobile Office visits conducted across the City’s four regions this year, allowed residents to engage with the City on a wide range of non-emergency enquiries, including rates, sewerage, electricity, water, refuse collection and other account-related matters.

The Basket of Services team has visited ten areas thus far: Saxonsea, Lentegeur, Scottsdene, Matroosfontein, Kensington, Athlone, Tafelsig, Khayelitsha, Retreat and Mamre.

‘We are proud to have spent this year serving residents close to their homes. These services dovetail with our vision of being a City of Hope. The Mobile Office team also participates in the monthly First Thursday events which are hosted by Premier Alan Winde and Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis at the Provincial Legislature Building on Wale Street. There you will find our dedicated Corporate Services staff attending to various queries,’ added Alderman Uys.

Each year, the Customer Services Department shares its proposed Mobile Office schedule with Councillors and Subcouncil Managers, allowing them to select dates for Wards and areas most in need of City services.
